Selling on Virtual Marketplaces
Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat
Question
I want to sell virtual products(programs, virtual models), on virtual marketplaces. Is there any problem with doing this? My concern is that these marketplaces often have a lot of haram content. Also since the items being sold are hosted on the marketplaces server, do I also have to consider if the marketplace company has halal finances? Finally , is the fact that these companies take cuts out of sales an issue?
Answer
I pray you are well.
Selling items on a virtual marketplace is permitted as long as what you are selling is permissible to sell. The other content is not of concern to you if you do not engage with it.
The cut the companies take can be seen as them charging you to use their playform, and that is permissible. Allah knows best.
May Allah bless you with the best of both worlds.
