26 – Hunger and the Prophetic Example – Awaken – Shaykh Abdullah Misra

In the twenty-sixth episode of this series, Shaykh Abdullah Misra covers four hadiths from Kitab al-Riqaq, which convey the cure to a hard heart and provide a means to reach Allah Most High. The first hadith reveals the fear and abuse that our beloved Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) suffered. There was an entire month when he did not have any food fit for human consumption except for what Bilal (Allah be pleased with him) brought hidden under his armpit.

The second hadith exemplifies the time when the companions complained of hunger and showed the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) stones tied to their stomachs and they found out that he had two stones tied to his stomach from the intensity of hunger. The third hadith is about the lack of provisions that the companions had and the blessing that was given in their little provision.

The fourth hadith commands us to love the downtrodden and connect family ties. It encourages us to speak the truth; rely on Allah alone; and not fear the blame of anyone when we are in the path of Allah. It also directs us to words that are a treasure from beneath the Divine Throne.
