Are These Conditions in a House Purchasing Contract Permissible?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

We have the opportunity to purchase a house in Germany with an interest-free loan from our employer. The conditions are a mortgage on the house as security for the loan and repayment within three months if we leave the job. Are these conditions permissible in Islam?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.

This is a great opportunity to buy the house with an interest-free loan, although the conditions are unIslamic. However, if you can remain committed to your employment, you may consider accepting the offer while ignoring the conditions. If not, then it will not be permissible.

Most Beloved to Allah Benefit People

Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar (Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “The most beloved people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people. The most beloved deed to Allah is to make a Muslim happy, remove one of his troubles, forgive his debt, or feed his hunger. That I walk with a brother regarding a need is more beloved to me than that I seclude myself in this mosque in Medina for a month.

Whoever swallows his anger, then Allah will conceal his faults. Whoever suppresses his rage, even though he could fulfill his anger if he wished, Allah will secure his heart on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever walks with his brother regarding a need until he secures it, then Allah Almighty will make his footing firm across the bridge on the day when the footings are shaken.”

May Allah (Most High) guide us to what pleases Him, forgive us for our shortcomings, and alleviate our difficulties, Amin.
