Are We Required to Send Prayers upon the Prophet When Reciting His Name in the Quran?

Should I say “Allah bless him and give him peace” after mentioning the Prophet’s name (Allah bless him and give him peace) when reading the Quran?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

When reciting the Prophet’s name in the Quran, one is not required to send prayers to him (may Allah bless him and give him peace).

Reciting the Quran in its proper order without breaking up the recitation is better than sending blessings on the Prophet (may Allah bless him and give him peace) mid-recitation. [Ibn Mazah, al-Muhit al-Burhani]

However, once one is finished reciting the Quran, they should send blessings on the Prophet (may Allah bless him and give him peace) – although not required.  [Ibid.]
