Are Meme Coins Halal in Islam?
Shafi'i Fiqh

Question
Are meme coins permissible in Islam?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
Memecoins are a form of cryptocurrency. The recognition of a form of property as a currency would appear to hinge on one of two factors potentially:
- Sovereign issue
- Social concurrence to accept. [Muhammad Ibn Taha Karaan]
If meme coins, in fact, meet this criterion, they will be accepted as a currency.
And with Allah alone is our success.
I pray this is of benefit and Allah guides us all.
