What Is the Difference between Ascent to Felicity and Tashil Bahishti Zewar?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
Both texts seem to be manuals of Hanafi Fiqh, Tasheel-e-Bahishti-Zewar by Jamia al-Rashid on the original Bahishti Zewar, and Ascent to Felicity. What is the difference between them? Do they agree, or are there some differences of opinion? Which one should I read first?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
Both are good texts; the Ascent to Felicity is a lucid translation with comprehensive notes of a traditional Arabic fiqh text, and the other is a simplified Urdu fiqh text of a previous work, beneficial, especially if your mother tongue is Urdu.
Keep both texts to read; they will give you an all-round understanding of the fiqh issues in English and Urdu.
