Reciting or Touching Quran with Blood on One’s Clothing

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

If there is a large amount of blood on my clothing, can I use my phone if there is a Quranic verse on it?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

The presence of impurity on one’s clothing is not a factor that would prevent one from being able to recite or touch a Quranic verse.

If one is in a ritual state of purity (i.e., they have wudu), they are permitted to touch the Quranic verse. [Maydani, al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab]

If, however, the impurity is in such a place that would come in contact with the Quranic verse or be very close to it — propriety would dictate to avoid such a situation by either changing one’s garments or sitting in a way where the impurities are far away from the Quranic verses.
