How Do I Dispose Of Old Cassettes Of Qur’an Recitations?

Question:

Assalamu ‘alaykum
I have many tape cassettes of Qur’an recitations. Unfortunately, we do not use tape cassette recorders anymore, and I am not sure what to do with these cassettes. What is the best way to respectfully part with tape cassette recordings of Qur’an?

Answer:

Wa ‘alaykum assalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.

I pray you are well.

If there are any stickers with Arabic writing on them, such as the names of suras, peel them off and burn or bury them in a pure place. If you burn them, you may have to break up the ashes as the text sometimes remains intact. This is to show respect and reverence to the things connected to the Qur’an.

The actual cassettes may be thrown away, as there is no Qur’anic text on them. If you know of someone who may benefit from them, it’s better to give them away. Maybe you can give them to the local mosque, where someone might be able to take them and benefit from them.
