How Can I Maintain Consistency in Reading the Quran Daily?
Answered by Shaykh Anas al-Musa
Question
How can I maintain consistency in reading the Quran daily?
Answer
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon the Messenger sent as a mercy to the worlds, our Master and Prophet, Muhammad, and his Family and Companions.
Consistency in reading the Quran is undoubtedly a blessing from Allah (Most High). Here are some tips to help you remain steadfast in this noble practice:
Associate with Those Who Are Connected to the Quran
Surround yourself with people who are devoted to reading the Quran regularly, as behavior is contagious. In today’s world, you can join Quran study circles in mosques or Quran memorization centers.
Remember That the Quran Is the Word of Allah
Reflect on the fact that Allah (Most High) sent the Quran as guidance, blessing, and light for humanity. As He says:
“Surely this Quran guides to what is most upright, and gives good news to the believers—who do good—that they will have a mighty reward.” [Quran, 17:9]
And also:
“There certainly has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book through which Allah guides those who seek His pleasure to the ways of peace, brings them out of darkness and into light by His Will, and guides them to the Straight Path.” [Quran, 5:15-16]
Feel as Though Allah Is Speaking to You Directly
As you read the Quran, imagine that Allah (Most High) is addressing you personally with His blessings and communicating with you through His divine guidance.
Purify Your Heart from Heedlessness
A pure heart never tires of reading the Quran. As a wise saying goes, “If the hearts were pure, they would never get enough of the recitation of the Quran.” [See: Zarkashi, al-Burhan; Nawawi, al-Tibyan]
Advice
Finally, I advise you to set aside a specific time each day for Quran reading so that you do not compromise under any circumstances.
At the very least, during this time, read the chapters and verses that have been mentioned in reports about their virtues, such as Surat al-Mulk, Surat al-Sajda, Surat al-Dukhan, Ayat al-Kursi, Surat al-Ikhlas, and the last two chapters (al-Mu‘awwidhatayn— al-Falak and al-Nas).
May Allah bless the Prophet Muhammad and give him peace, and his Family and Companions.
