Can One Teach the Quran Despite Not Receiving an Official Ijaza to Teach Yet?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
I pray to Allah that this inquiry finds you in the best of health and overall well-being.
I would like to know, what is the advice or ruling of a Quran student who wishes to teach what they’ve memorized from the Quran although they have not completed their Hifz?
This student has a current Quran teacher who has assured them that their knowledge of their memorized portion is sufficient to continue their Hifz. The intention of this student is;
1. To please Allah by teaching His Book.
2. Use teaching as a revision method.
3. Earn a humble income to fund their continuing Islamic education.
This student doesn’t have Ijazah but has sufficiently studied Qaida, Tajwid, and 15 Ajza.

Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
Teaching is one of the best acts of worship, especially the Quran. One of the conditions is that one has permission to teach, and you have been given it by your teacher to teach what you already know, and it is due to your competence and sincere intention, which are also conditions of teaching.
Although you may still need to be given the official ijaza, a verbal ijaza with continuous supervision of your teacher will suffice in Sha Allah. You may also accept wages for your teaching. See the links below.
The Best is the One Who Learns the Quran and Teaches it
Uthman bin Affan (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.” [Bukhari]
