Did I Break My Wudu?

Question: As-salaamu ‘alaikum, A person sometimes feels movement in the back passage. There is no smell. There is sound. The sound is somewhat different from the fart and seems to come from the feet area (not from the back passage). Does this invalidate his wudu?

Answer:

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

Assalam’aleykum, I pray this finds you in the best of states.

Jazakum Allah khayr for your question!

Certainty Is Not Removed By Doubts

This is a principle in fiqh. Once you perform wudu, the only thing that would remove you from this state is the certainty of breaking it. Feeling bubbles of air does not break wudu. Only the exiting of air would.

The basis is that you have wudu, and certainty is not lifted by subsequent doubts.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) has said, “If any of you feels something in his stomach such that it is unclear to him, whether something has come out or not, then he should certainly not leave the mosque unless he hears a sound or smells an odor.” [Muslim]

And Allah knows best.

I hope that the above answers your question. If something is unclear please don’t hesitate to ask again.

May  Allah Most High grant you the best of this world and the next. Please keep us in your du’as!

Wassalam
