Pausing in Prayer

Question: What is the ruling on standing up and pausing after bowing (ruku) and sitting and pausing between the two prostrations (sujud)?

Answer:

Wa alaykum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Dear questioner,

Thank you for your important question.

The ruling on standing up and pausing after bowing (ruku) and sitting and pausing between the two prostrations (sujud) in the Shafi’i school is that they are integral to the prayer (fard). If someone does not do them, they simply have not prayed (Minhaj al Talibin, Nawawi).

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) saw someone praying without doing these and told him to repeat his prayer (Bukhari).

I pray this helps.
