Question
Is it permissible to pray in a congregation where mosquito coils are lit in front of the worshippers, considering they cannot be moved during prayer?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
It is permissible to pray in a congregation where mosquito coils are lit in front of the worshippers.
Burning mosquito coils produces smoke, but it does not effect one’s prayer. However, the smoke may contain pollutants that could pose health risks. Therefore, it is advisable to consult with the trustees and discuss the effective use of mosquito coils with everyone involved.
‘Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) commanded that mosques be built in villages and that they be purified and perfumed. [Ibn Maja]
