Can a Mother Take Money From Her Children?

Question

My parents are divorced, and my father gave me some money, but my mother took it from me. Can I take it back from her purse again? I fear that she may never give it back to me. I know this from experience. What can I do if she asks about where did the money go? Have the parents any right over their children’s money?

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.

The money that your father gave to you is yours. However, your mother taking it is a very sensitive situation. If you can speak to her with love and respect and maybe use some diplomacy, it would be a better way. You don’t want to end up falling out with your mother. You need love, trust, and mutual connection from now on in your life with both parents.

Focus on building a connection and bridge between her. Sit down and try to make a plan for a good mutual understanding which will benefit all. No one out there will have more sincere love and connection than a parent-child connection. Focus on her positive qualities, and remind her of your relationship with her and what it can bring for both of you. You can pray the Prayer of Need (Salat al-Haja). See the link below.
