How Can I Convince My Husband to Get off YouTube?

My husband is starting to make videos on YouTube with his mosque about religious questions, their Quran classes, and so on. Now I am a very private person and I thought he would be too. He never told me that he wanted to do YouTube, and I don’t like it. He says that he isn’t doing anything haram. But I don’t want my husband to be online posting in these times, because his face is showing. What should I do about this?
Answer
Thank you for your question. I empathize with your fear and frustration, and I pray that you communicate openly with him and compromise as much as you can.
Disagreements
When you disagree with your husband, try to remember that Allah Most High has told us in the Quran: “If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing and Allah brings through it a great deal of goodness” [Quran 4:19].
The best wife was described in this hadith: It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, what type of wife is best? He said, ‘The one who makes (her husband) happy when he looks at her, and she obeys him if he instructs her to do something, and she does not do anything about herself or his wealth in a manner of which he does not approve.’” [Musnad of Ahmad]
Turn to Allah
You should sincerely turn to your Lord and ask Him to help you make peace with this if it is good for you and ask for His aid in convincing your husband to stop if it is bad for you. Pray istikhara and ask him to pray it too. We don’t know where Allah’s mercy lies, and we don’t know where goodness can come from. Be open with him, be honest, have a serious, calm conversation, and let him decide what to do. Filming and posting isn’t a sin, and perhaps he will realize he wants to stop, or maybe he won’t. You have the right to ask not to be included in the videos.
