How Can I Build a Strong Spiritual Foundation for My Marriage?
Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad
Question
My husband and I would like to get closer to the Quran, feel closer to Allah Most High together, and have spirituality be the foundation of the union. Still, I’m struggling with identifying some practical means and habits to do so. May Allah Most High bless and guide you in your response.
Answer
Thank you for your question. SubhanAllah, you ask an excellent question that many couples ask as well. May Allah guide you both to build such a foundation and overcome any challenges along the way.
Summary
In essence, what you desire can be accomplished by doing a few things, in my view:
- Study Islamic knowledge and Arabic together to determine how to practice Islam correctly
- Eliminate the haram and makruh from your lives gradually
- Worship together, such as praying, reading Quran, and making dhikr together
- Keep the company of religious families who are already well on this path. If this is not possible in your country, then travel during holidays to a place for spiritual growth.
