When Does it Really Become Prohibited to Eat During Ramadan?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam
Question
I have read that when fasting, one should ensure that between the moment one stops eating and Fajr’s time, there is a gap that would allow one to recite 50 verses of the Quran.
What happens if one stops eating 5 minutes before Fajr?
Answer
I pray this finds you in the best health and faith, insha’Allah.
The fast begins at the break of dawn (Fajr). Thus, you can technically eat and drink until this point.
However, the general sunna should stop early and use this blessed time for worship and supplication. This is also safer for your fast, considering many people often err when trying to do the absolute minimum.

And Allah alone gives success.
