While praying at work, I found myself listening to/distracted by my colleagues’ background conversations. I wasn’t fully concentrating in some of the rak’a, but then I started concentrating properly again. Was my Prayer Invalid?
Answer
No, your prayer was valid because you didn’t commit any actions that would invalidate the prayers. [Shurunbulali, Nur al-Idah]
Invalidators of the prayer include failing to fulfill one of its conditions, such as being in a state of wudu or performing an action that would break the prayer, such as uttering worldly speech or excessive movement. [ibid]
Simply being distracted by one’s surroundings is not one of those. [ibid]
Nonetheless, you should strive, whenever possible, to pray in a place free of distraction.
