How Many Times Do I Have to Repeat the Expressions of the Adhan?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Ustadh Sufyan Qufi
Question
Is it Sunna to say adhan words twice or that I can say each word once?
Answer
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
When it comes to performing the call to prayer (Adhan), one will have to repeat each sentence that constitutes the Adhan twice except for the first Takbirs (saying “Allahu Akbar”) which has to be said four times. [Shurunbulali, Nur al-Idah]
When hearing an Adhan, one should repeat every statement that the caller to prayer is uttering. [Ibid.]
The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) has said:
“When you hear the Adhan (call to prayer), repeat what the caller says.” [Bukhari]
And Allah knows best.
Wassalam
