Does One Have to Feed Ten Poor People Two Meals a Day Continuously?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

As far as I know, it is allowed to give one poor person half a sa’ of wheat or its price for ten days, according to Hanafi fiqh.

The question, however, is whether it is wajib to pay this amount one day after the other to one poor person, or is it allowed to give him the price of half sa’ for five days and then pay again after three days break and likewise with many breaks.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

One does not have to continuously give the poor person food for ten days. There is no problem if there is a break in between.  [Indarpati, Al-Fatawa al-Tatarkhaniyya]
