Do Weight-Loss Injections Outside the Fasting Hours Break the Fast?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Ustadh Sufyan Qufi
Question
Is it permissible to take weight-loss injections during Ramadan at Suhur or Iftar? Does it break the fast if it suppresses appetite? Should I stop taking it before Ramadan, and if so, how long prior?
Answer
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
I pray this finds you in the best of states.
Taking medication during the fasting hours breaks the fast.
As for the fact that this medication suppresses appetite it is of no legal consequences. [Shurunbulali, Nur al-Idah]
And Allah knows best.
Wassalam
