Do I Need to Make Up Prayers If I Faked Performing Them?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Ustadh Sufyan Qufi
Question
In 2024, I intentionally missed prayers and faked performing them to avoid suspicion from my parents. I deeply regret this now. Do I need to make up these missed prayers?
Answer
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
I pray this finds you in the best of states.
Yes, you need to repeat properly those missed prayers that you have faked. [Shurunbulali, Nur al-Idah]
The position of all four schools of Sunni law is that it is obligatory (fard) to make up all missed prayers, regardless of why they were missed. And prayer is the first thing we will be questioned about on the Day of Judgement, as the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) informed us.
The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:
“Whoever forgets a prayer must perform it when they remember it.” [Bukhari; Muslim]
And Allah knows best.
Wassalam
