Do I Have to Perform Sujud Al-Sahw If I Was About to Go into Ruku’ after Reciting Fatiha?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
In ‘Isha prayer, I was on 2nd raka’a and almost went down for ruku’ before saying another sura after Fatiha. I was saying, “Allahu Akbar,” I stopped at “Al,” then went back to say surat al-Ikhlas and continued and did not do sujud al-sahw. Is this correct?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are well.
You will not be required to perform sujud al-sahw (prostrations of forgetfulness) in the above case.
Prostrations of forgetfulness are not required if one continues to make verbal remembrance (as in your case with saying “Al” of “Allahu Akbar”) of any kind while thinking of or being inattentive, including recitation of the Quran. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah]
