As a New Revert Can I Help Out With the Family Dog?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
My family owns a dog, and I live in the house with this dog. However, I know I’m not accountable for this, but they expect me to help out with the dog due to a family member leaving the home, so he won’t be able to do it. They expect me to do things like send it out so it can urinate, but I don’t know whether this is permissible to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I recently just reverted to Islam a few months back after leaving Islam, and my family is non-Muslim.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are in good faith and health.
It is permissible to support your non-Muslim family as you are living with them. However, you should avoid making things difficult for yourself and your family. Doing so may cause them to turn away from Islam instead of bringing them closer to it.
Allah Most High increase you with deep faith, good works each day going forward, and grant every success of this World and the Next, amin.
