Is It Permissible To Wear Swedish Clothing Brands?
Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat
Question
Sweden allowed people to burn the Quran, is it allowed for me to buy a jacket that has a Swedish brand?
Answer
I pray you are well.
Yes, it is permissible to wear clothing made by Swedish brands, despite the actions of those who burned the Quran and those who supported them. The transaction is unconnected to the events, and will be valid. (Quduri, al-Mukhtasar)
You do, however, have the right to not purchase their products. Boycotting is something people differ on, and its efficacy could be argued. The choice is yours.
It is important for people to speak up in protest of such actions, however. In a world where people increasingly ask for respect and acceptance of opinions, beliefs, and orientations, we should point out that this should be something universal – extending to Islam as well.
May Allah facilitate the means to earning His pleasure for us.
