Is a Pilot’s Income Halal If They Fly to Places with Haram Activities?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

As a pilot flying internationally, I often transport passengers to destinations like Singapore, where haram activities and food are common. Is my income halal despite this indirect involvement?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

Your occupation as a pilot is permissible regardless of the places to which you fly your passengers. You are not accountable for their sinful activities in said place. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]
