Is an Expiation Required for Drinking Water That Smells of Lollipops While in Ihram?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

While in ihram, I drank water used to wash my child’s lollipop, which smelled of the lollipop. Does this require expiation?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

Drinking water that has the smell of lollipops in it does necessitate an expiratory charity. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

Hope this helps
