How Can I Perform Tawaf if I Suffer From Flatulence?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

If a person has chronic flatulence such that they can find enough time to do ablution and pray (approximately 10/15 minutes) but then their ablution breaks. I understand the person is not considered excused (ma‘dhur) due to being able to find enough time to perform ablution and pray, but what would this person do regarding Umra and, more specifically, the Tawaf? Due to old age, they would only possibly get to the end of one circuit before their ablution would break, so what this person should do (as otherwise it would mean having to go and do ablution for each circuit and sometimes possibly twice for a single circuit thus leading to a very long Tawaf that the person would not be able to complete).

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.

It would be advisable for you to wear waterproof socks that are comfortable and permissible. This way, you will only need to wash your face and arms, wipe your head, and locate the nearest wudu area points before starting your tawaf in case you break your wudu.
