Is the Hadith About Saying “Raditu Billahi” in the Morning and Evening Authentic?
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
Is the Hadith about saying “Raditu billahi Rabban, wa bil-Islami dinan, wa bi Muhammadin nabiyyan” in the morning and evening authentic? I heard it has been graded Hasan and Sahih in different narrations. Is this correct?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
Yes it is correct that the two narrations of this report are Hasan (good) and Sahih (rigorously authenticated).
The narration (Hadith) referenced in your question is found in both its variant wordings narrated by Tabarani and Imam Ahmad. Both of these scholars narrate this hadith with chains of transmission containing trustworthy (thuqat) narrators. [Haytami, Majma‘ al-Zawa’id]
Imam Ahmad’s Narration
Abu Salam narrates saying,
“A man came into the mosque in Aleppo, and people began saying, ‘This person served the Messenger of Allah!’ Abu Salam then said, ‘So, I stood up and went to him and said, “Narrate to me a report (hadith) you heard directly from the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace).” He said, “The Messenger of Allah said, ‘No Muslim servant (of Allah) says, when they arise in the morning, and when they retire at night, three times: I am pleased with Allah as Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad as my Prophet – except that it is a right upon Allah that He please him on the Day of Standing.”’” [Ahmad (Hadith Sahih)]
Imam Tabarani’s Narration
Munaydhir, the Companion of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) narrates,
“I heard the Messenger of Allah say, ‘Whoever says, when they arise in the morning, “I am pleased with Allah as Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad as my Prophet”—I am their guarantor that I will take them by the hand and enter them into Paradise.’” [Tabarani (Hadith Hasan)]
Hope this helps
