Can Binaural Sounds Be Used as Medicine Despite Sihr Claims?

Answered by Shaykh Irshaad Sedick

Question

Is it permissible to use binaural sounds as a form of medicine, relying on Allah (Most High) for their effects, despite conspiracy claims of sihr (magic)?

Answer

The permissibility of using binaural sounds as a form of medicine depends on several factors:

Nature of the Sounds

Binaural sounds are permissible as long as they do not involve anything prohibited in Islam, such as musical elements deemed impermissible, inappropriate content, or associations with practices contrary to Islamic teachings. For detailed guidance on the permissibility of music, refer to this answer.

Intention and Reliance

It is essential to firmly believe that any benefit or healing ultimately comes from Allah (Most High). Utilizing binaural sounds as a tool or means of therapy is acceptable as long as one places complete reliance on Allah (Most High). This aligns with the Prophetic understanding of using permissible means while depending on Allah for the outcomes.

Avoiding Superstitions and Conspiracy Theories

Claims associating binaural sounds with sihr (magic) or conspiracy theories should not deter their use unless clear evidence links them to impermissible practices. The key is to ensure their usage is free from shirk (associating partners with Allah) or any other prohibited activity.

Efficacy and Evidence

While there may be no definitive evidence supporting the therapeutic efficacy of binaural sounds, Islamic teachings provide a clear alternative for achieving inner peace and healing through the Remembrance of Allah. Allah (Most High) says, “Those who believe and whose hearts find comfort in the remembrance of Allah. Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find comfort.” [Quran, 13:28].

Engaging in dhikr (remembrance) and other spiritual practices are proven means to attain contentment and well-being.

Conclusion

Using binaural sounds as a form of therapy is permissible, provided they do not involve anything impermissible, and one relies solely on Allah (Most High) for any effects. However, believers are encouraged to prioritize spiritual remedies such as dhikr, which have clear and enduring benefits supported by revelation.

And Allah knows best.
