What Is the Ruling Regarding Durud Taj? (Sending Blessings Upon the Prophet)

Question: What is the ruling regarding Durud Taj?

Answer: assalamu `alaykum

It is permissible to recite Darud Taj.

The basis when it comes to this ruling is that there is no fixed form stipulated by the law when it comes to sending blessings on the Prophet (God bless him) departure from which would be deemed impermissible. Rather, the Quran has left the command unconditional by stating, “God and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet, O you who believe send blessings upon him…” (33:56)

For this reason, scholars throughout the ages have always taken liberty to formulate their own blessings upon the Prophet (God bless him). The Dala’il al-Khayrat is one of the more famous examples. As long as the content of such blessings are sound, the recitation of that blessing would also be permissible.

Of course, it goes without saying that the particular form taught by the Prophet (God bless him) is the best of such supplications. This, however, does not necessitate that other wordings/forms would be impermissible. [al-Sakhawi, al-Qawl al-Badi]
