Should I Donate My Less Modest Clothing? – Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

Alhamdulillah, I have started dressing more modestly. I now have a lot of clothes that I will not wear anymore. Most of them are pretty much new or in very good condition. Should I give these to charity? They are daytime clothes so people will likely wear them out. I know I will not acquire someone else’s sin unless I directly influence or encourage them, however, I still worry that people are likely to wear these outside (jeans etc) so I am not sure what to do.

Answer

Thank you for your question. You may donate the clothes as there is no sin involved concerning what other people do with them. Another option is to wear them at home with your husband or give them to Muslim women who will wear them at home with their husbands.

May Allah give you the best of this world and the next.
