Lesbianism in the Qu’ran
Question: Is it forbidden to act upon lesbian inclinations? Does it mention it in the Qur’an?
Answer:
Wa alaykum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
Dear questioner,
Thank you for your important question.
Acting upon one’s homosexual inclinations is something forbidden by scholarly consensus. There is no difference between active homosexuality between men and active lesbianism between women.
Allah Most High says, ‘And they who guard their private parts, except their wives or those their right hands, possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed, but whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors’ (Qur’an 23: 5-7)
It is quite obvious from these verses that the only pure and good way that Allah has made for women’s sexual gratification is with her husband.
Ibn Umar was asked about women being sexually active with other women and he said that they would meet Allah as adulterers (Ibn Abi Shayba).
Indeed the spread of homosexuality is one of the signs of the end of time. There are various weak hadiths to indicate this, and together they offer good evidence.
One such hadith is ‘Indeed on the signs of the Hour and its portents is that men will suffice themselves with men, and women with women’ (al Mujam al Kabir, Tabarani; al Bath wa al Nushur, Bayhaqi).
