Jesting and Joking
Assalam alaykum wa rahmatullah
Dear questioner,
May Allah bless you and increase you in good.
Jesting and Joking
In general, it is not sinful to laugh at incidents that make one naturally laugh. Such as someone falling, and then a person naturally laughs from it.
When joking or laughing at others becomes prohibited is when one laughs at their tragedy. It is not permitted to laugh or mock others, assuming that you are better than them.
Allah says in the Quran, ” Believers, no one group of men should jeer at another, who may, after all, be better than them; no one group of women should jeer at another, who may, after all, be better than them; do not speak ill of one another; do not use offensive nicknames for one another. How bad it is to be called a mischief-maker after accepting faith! Those who do not repent of this behavior are evildoers.” [Quran 49:11]
So, in summary, do not laugh at anyone who may get hurt by your laughter. Human beings’ hearts are fragile, so one should always gently deal with one another.
