If I Keep Sinning, Does That Mean My Supplications Go Unanswered?
Answered by Imam Yama Niazi
Question
If I keep committing sins or a bad thing happens, does that mean my supplications go unanswered?
Answer
May Allah bless you and make matters easy for you.
Every time a person sins, they must repent. If it happens again, then they must repeatedly repent if it keeps happening.
How Do We Improve and Avoid Sin?
Keep company with those who make you better in your religion. Good company with others is those who remind you of Allah and assist you in doing good deeds. Sometimes the right company is all it takes to get one’s life in order.
Particular sins can be worked on avoiding by seeking help in that matter. You may need to consult someone who can help you with that specific thing you are going through.
Mercy of Allah
Do not despair ever from the mercy of Allah!
Allah says in the Quran, “Say, ˹O Prophet, that Allah says,˺ “O My servants who have exceeded the limits against their souls! Do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy, for Allah certainly forgives all sins. He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Quran, 39:53]
The Messenger of Allah ( Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “The one who repents (sincerely) from a sin is like one with no sin.” [Ibn Majah]
Supplication Being Unanswered
You should not feel that your supplication went unanswered. You do not know that. Your sin or the wrong you fell into is a brand new sin. Allah could have answered the last prayer and will also answer the new prayer. It would be best if you had a good opinion of Allah in these matters of mercy.
Allah Most High says, in a Hadith Qudsi, “I am as My slave thinks of Me.” [Bukhari]
Conclusion
I recommend you do not stop making supplications to Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful, who hears all of our prayers. Keep going, and do not look back.
Work on strengthening your faith through knowledge and practice and good company.
