Can My Husband Perform Hajj If He Misses Jumu’a Regularly?
Question:
Assalaamu Alaykum.
My husband wants to save for us to go on hajj using the money he makes working as a teacher. However, working as a public school teacher makes it difficult to attend Jumu’ah prayers. He usually misses jumu’a entirely, and when he can go, he can not make it to the khutba and sometimes even misses the salat. Is this money halal for him to use to make hajj? If I go on hajj with him, will our hajj be accepted?
Answer:
Wa ‘alaykumassalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.
I pray you are well.
Yes, your husband can himself perform the Hajj and take you to perform it, even if he misses the Friday prayer regularly. The two acts of worship are independent of each other.
However, he should strive to perform the Friday prayer without missing it. If he is delayed due to the work schedule, he and three other Muslims can perform their own simplified Jumu’a prayers.
Three people need to be listening when the fourth stands and performs the khutba. They can even be the first verse of the Fatiha. He then sits for a few seconds, rises, and repeats the verse. That is the bare-bones khutba. After this, the imam leads them in the two fard units of the Jumu’a prayer. This can take less than five minutes. (Shurunbulali, Maraqi al Falah)
May Allah facilitate all forms of good for you.
