Can I Go Shopping with My Brother and His Fiancée?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
If my mother tells me to go with my brother and his fiancée to buy clothes, would it be permissible for me to go out with them? My brother practices Islam but he talks with his fiancée on mobile phone. She lives in the USA and when she comes, my brother may go outside with her and may take me to buy dresses.
Is it permissible for me to go out with them?
If my mother and brother might become angry with me for not going out with them, what do I do?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate
Allah rewards you for your concern and intention to keep your parents and siblings happy.
Godfearingness is, it would not be permissible for a fiance and fianceé to interact and go on about doing things on their own.
Some scholars would recommend that both get permission from their parents and get a family member from both or one, to sit with them, or go out with them if they have to.
Why not recommend a course or two from the ‘Family and Marriage’ section to your brother and fiancée. It will help and build their future marriage and family relationship.
I pray this helps with your questions.
