What Is a Woman’s Religious Role?

Answered by Shaykh Farid Dingle

Question

Can women call the azan? Can they be religious teachers and invite people to Islam?

Answer

Dear questioner,

Thank you for your important question.

Yes, women can and historically have taught Islam to others and invited others to Islam.

However, women cannot call the azan, and they shouldn’t recite the Qur’an aloud in the presence of men that are not immediate relatives.

As for the story, I’m afraid I don’t know anything about it. I couldn’t find any stories that resemble it.

I pray this helps.
