Is It Permissible to Purchase an Extended Warranty within 60 Days Like It Is on the Same Day?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
Is purchasing an extended warranty within 60 days permissible like it is on the same day?
Answer
Guarantees and Extended Warranties that are from the contract are a customarily-contractual market practice as it does not lead to a dispute being on the same day.
However, esteemed Muftis and scholars say an extended warranty purchased inclusive of the actual item sold is impermissible and will not form part of the actual purchase and sale agreement. Thus, it will be considered a separate transaction.
