Did Our Lady Fatima Have an Argument with Abu Bakr over Property?
Answered by Ustadh Farid Dingle
Question
Is it true that Our Lady Fatima had an argument with Abu Bakr al Siddiq over property in Fadak?
Answer
Thank you for your important question.
There was no religious argument between Our Lady Fatima and Abu Bakr al Siddiq (Allah be well pleased with both of them).
When the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) died, she asked for her inheritance from him from land a short distance from Medina called Fadak.
She had assumed that she would inherit it, but when Abu Bakr told her that her father Allah bless him and give him peace) had said that no one inherits from prophets, she accepted it. (Musnad Ahmad; Tawil Mukhtalif al Hadith, Ibn Qutayba)
Furthermore it is quite clear that she died content with both with Abu Bakr and with not receiving the inheritance. (Al Sunan al Kubra, Bayhaqi)
Certain sects of Islam base their relationship with Allah on hatred of others: whenever there is a chance to show faults in certain people, they jump to the occasion. This is a spiritual sickness, and we invite all Muslims to always have a good opinion of other Muslims and interpret any confrontation in the best possible light.
I pray this helps.
