Can I Wish for Death as I Have a Lot of Problems?

I’m here with lots of hope. Please help me as my problem isn’t temporary; it will stay for the rest of my life, and I can’t live with that, so I want you to tell me if I can wish for death as I am already dead inside. I can’t live like this anymore.

Thank you for your question. I am so very distressed by your question, and I pray with all my heart that Allah can relieve you of this hardship and turn your life around. Please don’t despair in Allah’s mercy and know that He will come to your aid; just keep asking Him.

Abu Hurairah related: Allah’s Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “None of you should wish for death. If he is a righteous man, perhaps he may add to (his) good works, and if he is a sinner, possibly he may be repentant (in case he is given a longer life).” [Bukhari]
Tips
Having given me a lack of details, I can give you general counsel to uplift yourself and achieve some peace of mind.
- Repent to Allah and turn to Him broken, humbled, and with your whole being. Tell him that you are only interested in what He wants for you, and you will throw your own will away;
- Start a gratitude journal and write in it daily all the blessings that you can think of;
- Fulfill your religious obligations as best as you can learn about the Prophet’s life. You will find that the pain that he went through sometimes was insurmountable but it made his faith stronger;
- Volunteer for charity and help those who are downtrodden, poor, starving, orphaned, abused, disabled, or elderly; this will bring out great qualities in you and many blessings.
Allah Wants to Be Asked, and Dua Will Not Be Rejected
Ask Allah incessantly day and night and recall this hadith: Abu Huraira reported that Allah’s Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “When half of the night or two-thirds of it is over, Allah, the Blessed and the Exalted, descends to the lowest heaven and says: Is there any beggar, so that he be given? Is there any supplicator so that he be answered? Is there any beggar of forgiveness so that he be forgiven? (And Allah continues it saying) till it is daybreak.“ [Muslim]
And he also said, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, “There are three whose supplication is not rejected: The fasting person when he breaks his fast, the just leader, and the supplication of the oppressed person; Allah raises it up above the clouds and opens the gates of heaven to it. And the Lord says: ‘By My might, I shall surely aid you, even if it should be after a while.’” [Tirmidhi]
