Can a Woman Wear Revealing Clothes at Home If Her Husband Doesn’t Request It?
Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad
Question
Is it obligatory for women to cover from navel to knee when alone, and is it sinful if not done? Are shorts reaching the thighs or tight clothing like leggings covering this area sinful?
Can a woman wear revealing clothes to attract her husband even if he doesn’t ask for it?
Answer
Thank you for your question. Yes, one must cover from navel to knee when home alone, not including the knee. Long enough shorts and leggings fulfill this requirement, though loose is better. A woman can wear revealing clothing at home for her husband, even if it is not requested of her.
Islam is a religion of modesty, and if we value it and instill it in everything we do, we will find nothing but goodness, in sha’ Allah. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said,
“Every religion has its distinct characteristic, and the distinct characteristic of Islam is modesty.” [Ibn Majah]
