Traces of food in the mouth and fasting
Question: Assalamu alaikum
I can taste the leftover trace of drink or food in my mouth after suhur ends. Even washing the mouth with water may not completely remove the taste. Does this invalidate the fast? Naturally, it will mingle with the wetness and saliva in the mouth that we swallow, so I am confused over whether it invalidates the fast. Please can you clarify?
Answer: In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

Answer: In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
Assalam’aleykum,
I pray this finds you in the best of states.
No, being able to taste in your mouth the traces of food eaten during the suhur do not break the fast.
In fact, eating what is between the teeth is less than the size of a chickpea and does not break the fast. [Nur al-Idah]
Allah Most High says: “Allah intends (to provide) ease for you and does not intend (to create) hardship for you.” [2. 185]
Nonetheless, basic caution entails for you to spit out in this situation.
