Is There a Hadith Stating That Prophets Delay Their Morning Meal and Hasten to Break Their Fast?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

Does any hadith say that prophets must eat their morning meals later than everyone else and break their fast quickly in the evening?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.

As followers of the nation (umma) of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), we have been ordered to break our fast as soon as possible and delay having the pre-dawn meal. See the detailed answer below.

Hasten to Break the Fast, Delay Pre-fasting Dawn Meal

Abu Dharr (Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said,

“My nation will not cease to be upon goodness so long as they hasten to break their fasting and delay the morning meal.” [Ahmad]
