Is My Fast Valid If I Unintentionally Swallowed Something?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
Is my fast valid if I unintentionally swallowed something, unsure if it was food or a thread? If invalid, must I make up those specific days, and is my fast valid if I swallowed something while making it up, thinking it might be a thread?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
The mere suspicion of swallowing something does not invalidate the fast. [Maydani, al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab]
If you unintentionally swallowed something while you remembered you were fasting, the fast is broken (except in the case of the thread). [Ibid.]
Hope this helps
