Why Does a Maiden of Paradise Curse the Women of This World?
Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad
Question
It is said that the women of this world will be far more beautiful and superior, and the Hur will be jealous. I also saw another hadith that states that if a wife hurts her husband, the Houri will say, “May Allah curse you.” To me, that’s not fair. So if I hurt my husband, even if he is at fault, the Houri will still tell Allah to curse me? And why are the Houris talked about so much and not the women of the Dunya? They are given too much importance, even in the Quran. It hurts me to think I am of no use in this life. Why do the Hur call the men “our husbands” when they are their slaves?
Answer
Superiority
Yes, the women of this world are superior to the maidens of Paradise, so jealousy is unwarranted.

Uselessness
Please cure your feelings of uselessness with action and be one of the people mentioned in the following hadith:
Ibn Umar reported: The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “The most beloved people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people. The most beloved deed to Allah is to make a Muslim happy, remove one of his troubles, forgive his debt, or feed his hunger. That I walk with a brother regarding a need is more beloved to me than that I seclude myself in this mosque in Medina for a month. Whoever swallows his anger, then Allah will conceal his faults. Whoever suppresses his rage, even though he could fulfill his anger if he wished, then Allah will secure his heart on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever walks with his brother regarding a need until he secures it for him, then Allah Almighty will make his footing firm across the bridge on the day when the footings are shaken.” [Tabarani]
Husbands
The maidens of Paradise will be their wives; that is why they refer to the men as their husbands. For example, the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “The martyr has six things with Allah: He is forgiven from the first drop of his blood that is shed; he is shown his place in Paradise; he is spared the torment of the grave; he is kept safe from the Great Fright; he is adorned with a garment of faith; he is married to (wives) from among the wide-eyed houris, and he is permitted to intercede for seventy of his relatives.” [Ibn Maja]
