Is It Possible to Reject My Worldly Husband in Paradise?
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
I would like to know if it is possible to reject my worldly husband in paradise? I morally do not agree with the concept of the maidens of paradise as a gift for men but do not want to take issue with Islam and fall into sin by forbidding my husband his right to maidens of paradise. I have already read every answer and article related to the maidens of paradise, so I would appreciate it if You would only refer to and answer my specific question. Thank You in advance.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
The maidens of paradise are mentioned as a reward in the Hereafter as this is something that would entice and encourage men to do righteous deeds in preparation for the Hereafter. This is what Allah Most High has decreed as a reward for his male servants, we, therefore, submit to Allah, the All-Wise, and what He decrees.
Women will be given all that they desire and more, just as men will, even though the object of desire may be different in each.
Even though a man will be given maidens which may stir up some hard feelings in a woman in this world (dunya), we must understand that the Hereafter, is absolutely different. Thus, a woman will not have any ill feelings at the rewards of her husband; as she will be given preference over those maidens by vast degrees, due to her worships in this world. [Tafsir al-Tabari citing ‘Abdullah bin Mubarak]
Allah Most High says, “Enter Paradise, you and your spouses: you will be filled with joy.” [Quran, 43:70]
and “We shall have removed all ill-feeling from their hearts; streams will flow at their feet. They will say, ‘Praise be to God, who guided us to this: had God not guided us, We would never have found the way. The messengers of our Lord brought the Truth.’ A voice will call out to them, ‘This is the Garden you have been given as your own on account of your deeds.”
That said, one should not ponder on such things, if doing so stirs up ill feelings in the heart; this can be dangerous, as it can lead to objecting to the decree of Allah Most High. One’s reflection and concern should be in achieving the Divine pleasure and mercy thus making it to Paradise.
Hope this helps
