Can I Work As An Internal Auditor In A Bank?
Answered by Shaykh Abdul- Rahim Reasat
Question:
Assalamu ‘alaykum.
I recently read an answer regarding working in a bank/ financial institution and that if a role is directly linked with riba, then obviously this is haram.
However, my question is specifically for the role as an internal auditor. I currently work like this and would like to work in investment banks but only if it is permissible.
I am not aware of us internal auditors being directly linked to riba. However, I would greatly appreciate if you could confirm, please.
Answer:
Wa ‘alaykum assalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.
I pray you are well.
Yes, your job as an internal auditor is permissible if you are not dealing with interest in any way. You may assume that your income comes from one of the halal business ventures of the bank.
Despite the permissibility, it would be superior to find work that is not connected to interest in any way. Doing so with the intention to please Allah and to shun what He hates would be greatly rewarded. It is best to have one’s income from clearly halal matters that are unconnected to the haram.
The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Truly, you won’t leave something for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) except that Allah will replace it with that which is better for you than it.“ (Ahmad)
May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
