Is It Obligatory to Travel with Tabligh Jamat If I Have a Family with Young Children?

Question

Is it fard to go to Jamat? If you have a family with young children, is it obligatory to go for four months, leaving a wife and 3 children under the age of nine behind?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

Tabligh Jamat is a worthy effort based on sincere principles, of bringing back Muslims to practice their religion following the commands of Allah (Most High) shown by our beloved Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). They are fulfilling a communal obligation of calling people to Allah (Most High) and His Prophet’s (Allah bless him and give him peace) teachings.

I advise you to sit down and talk it through with your husband with love and wisdom and try to come to a conclusion and a middle way. He has to accept if you are not happy for him to go four months. You have three young children who would need attention and care; maybe not to go at all or go for a lesser time. Every mother with children is different; some might allow their husbands to go, and some might not be able to.

May Allah (Most High) give us all a life of continuous sound faith and good works, allow us to repent and seek forgiveness when we fail, remember Him with our tongue moist with His remembrance, fulfilling His rights and of his fellow human beings, and may our end state be with sound faith and good actions, Amin!

I pray this helps with your questions.
