Attending the Marriage of a Muslim Woman to a Non-Muslim Man
Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat
Question
A Muslim girl is getting engaged with a non-Muslim boy. They have invited us to attend the engagement ceremony and subsequent wedding ceremony.
Should we attend such events knowing that a Muslim girl is not allowed to marry a non-Muslim man.
Answer
I pray you are well.
No, you should not attend this wedding. It is impermissible for a Muslim woman to marrry a non-Muslim man. The detriment of this extends beyond the effect of this on her faith to the those connected to her, especially the children they will have. This harm should be averted and scholars have highlighted it even when it comes to a Muslim man marrying a non-Muslim woman. (Ibn al-Humam, Fath al-Qadir)
If you can advise her and direct her to speak to a scholar, do so, and politely explain why you cannot attend. Perhaps the husband to be would be open to looking into and accepting Islam, leaving them with no impediments. May Allah guide their hearts to the truth He has revealed.
